Go karting is not only a hobby but a worldwide sport. There are those individuals who like the challenge of building something and want to be hands on in the building process. Building your own go kart means a sense of pride and accomplishment in your hard work. There are a variety of go kart kits for all ages and levels for the enthusiast or hobbyist.
Types of Kits
All go cart kits are not created equal and many vary by piece and style. Most come with everything needed minus the engine and clutch. If you want to challenge of welding, tube bending frame work then un-welded kits are for you. There are kits that require experience and knowledge while others require very little fabrication and minimal tools. One of the most popular kits on the market is the
UN-Welded Kits – Many kits come with parts that need welding, thus you need a welding machine and some welding knowledge to complete the build. Or if you have a friend that welds then maybe you can pay him to do it for you. NOTE: if you have no welding knowledge then for costs sake you might as well buy a welded go cart kit to save you time and money. Hiring a welder will cancel any cost you saved by purchasing an un-welded go kart kit.
Welded Kits- These go-cart kits come pre-welded so there is no welding needed. Welded go-kart kits typically cost about 30% more than an un-welded kit but save a bundle of time when building a go cart.
Some kits come with a blueprint while others have detailed instructions. It is important to get a kit that reflects the level of the rider.
Go Kart Plans
This is for those more advanced in welding, cutting and various mechanical use of their hands. For those wanting to build their own go-cart there are go cart plans you can buy or find for free online. Assuming the plans you choose are well designed you will still have some work cut out for you. Essentially the go kart plan will be a blueprint with diagrams and parts you will need for the build. They can be digitally downloaded and printed off for you to use at home.
NOTE: Welding, cutting and bending will all be part of this build. It is not recommended for beginners. This allows you to purchase parts and accessories for the kart separately and completely customize your go-kart. MFG Supply, Northern Tool, Ebay and Amazon have plans to suit just about any hobbyist with a challenge. Kits Vs. Pre-Assembled Go Karts
As kids we gravitate toward the motorized machines, it’s an adrenaline thing. One of the best ways to interact with your kids and spend some quality time is to use build your own go kart kits. This can be accomplished by buying a go-kart kit and assembling yourself. Now you may ask why would I wanna do that? Simple, first because you can build it with your own hands which means pride and accomplishment. Second is you can build it with your children and spend some quality father son/daughter bonding which is invaluable.
