The internet has completely changed the way shopping is done and that means a plethora of options for finding new or used go carts for sale.

5 Tips for Finding Used Go Carts

1. Experienced Mechanic – Have an experienced mechanic/buddy look at the go cart before you buy unless your buying a new cart from a reputable dealer. This means a warranty should be involved which is a MUST if you buy new. Its easy to look at a used kart and assume it is in great shape when in fact it is not. A mechanic can make sure the engine is in good working order, brakes, throttle, gearing, steering all works properly.

2. Safety – Make sure you check the safety features thoroughly. Look for cracks or breaks in the roll bars/cage, frame damage, seat belts etc.. Further, check to see that there is no rust in certain areas as well as missing parts, bolts etc.. You want to buy from a responsible individual who has taken care of their go cart. NOTE: Fathers are usually a good example of well cared for machines.

3. Judge a Book By Its Cover – We are taught to never judge a book by its cover but when it comes to powersports you need to heed the opposite. Expect to see some scratches here and there but if a go kart looks like it has been through a tornado then you probably don’t want it. Off road go carts are going to have some outside damage because of the terrain but if it has been driven responsibly then it will look the part.

4. Try To Buy Local – Buying local means you can probably get some history on the cart. Better would be buying from a friend or acquaintance (friend of a friend) that will help ease your worry. Buying out of town means time and money which could pay off if you just can’t find anything locally. Ask a lot of questions about the cart. If the seller is not very knowledgeable about it or seems a little distant or ambiguous then they are probably hiding something. You want a seller who is very honest and willing to answer any questions. Ask for a test drive! I sold a four wheeler once that I had rolled and when the buyer asked me if it had been rolled I said YES! Because I wanted peace of mind knowing I wouldn’t get a phone call later complaining that something was wrong with it. EXPECT HONESTY!

5. Buy Online – Buying online can be a huge advantage if you can find the right deal. Search for a hundred mile radius first so you don’t have to go to far. Then widen your search as you need to. The problem is everything tends to look good in pictures but you have to see it in person to really get a good idea. Ask a lot of questions to get a good feel about the seller. Seller honesty can go a long way when your dealing with an out of town transaction. Ask for a lot of pictures and see if they offer to meet you half way.
